Two charged with Attempted Murder following a stabbing in Council Bluffs

(Council Bluffs) Two people face Attempted Murder charges following a stabbing in Council Bluffs this morning.

The Council Bluffs Police Department says officers were called to 805 2nd Avenue at around 5:04 this morning for a stabbing that had just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and found that the victim, 47-year-old Glenna Hankins, had been stabbed once in the abdomen.

Officers were also able to locate two suspects; 29-year-old Billie Jean Fitzgerald and 28-year-old  Frank Stewart.  Officers on scene learned that both Fitzgerald and Stewart arrived at Hankins’ apartment and an argument ensued.  At one point, Fitzgerald pulled a knife from her clothing and stabbed Hankins one time in the abdomen.  Hankins later stated that just prior to her being stabbed she heard Stewart encouraging Fitzgerald and telling her to stab Hankins.

Fitzgerald was taken into custody and transported to Pottawattamie County Corrections and booked for the charges of Attempted Murder and Going Armed with intent.  Stewart was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a medical condition not related to this incident.  Upon his release he will also be charged with Attempted Murder and transported to Pottawattamie County Corrections.

Hankins suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
