(Oakland) Riverside has a stout groups of wrestlers ready to get things rolling in the 2019-20 campaign.
Coach Casey Conover has a lot of positives to report from the early stages of practice. “It’s looking pretty good. We got everybody back from last season. We added a couple of young, up and coming freshmen. It’s been going good. We’ve had some really good practices and our kids are really buying in and staying focused.
More specifically, the intensity has been good. “As coaches we got together and with the people coming back we all agreed we need to pick up our intensity and keep our focus every time. We told the kids we drill with a purpose, we wrestle with a purpose, we condition with a purpose, we aren’t coming out there and going through the motions.”
There’s a long list of key returners including 2019 state qualifiers Jace Rose and Mick Schroder. Returning district qualifiers include Nolan Moore, Austin Kremkoski, and Kaiden Hendricks. Several others return with varsity experience plus freshmen Brody Zimmerman, Austyn Fisher, and Nathan Messerschmidt enter the fold.
The team also has a girls wrestler and will host a girls tournament during their home tourney. Iliana Yanes is back after a state runner-up finish at heavyweight last year.
