Atlantic Boys Track Athletes Compete for a Trip to State Today


(Atlantic) Track Athletes across the state will be competing at state qualifying meets today for a spot on the big stage next week. In Class 3a the top two individuals and the next eight fastest times and distances will qualify for the state meet that runs May 22, 23 and 24. Atlantic is one of the host sites in Class 3A. The Co-Ed meet consists of teams from Harlan, Glenwood, Green County, Carroll, Creston,

Denison/Schleswig, and Winterset.

 

Atlantic Head Coach Alan Jenkins says this is the most important meet of the season and his goal is to put his athletes in the best position to qualify, and one example is placing Josiah Williams in the 3,200.

The Trojans have the top high jumper in the field, (pictured)  Alec Hayes. The sophomore is coming off of his best performance of the season with a 6-03 effort at the Conference meet.

The other prospects for Atlantic include; Robbie Bodine in the long jump, and Brendon Holmes in the 400-low hurdles. Bodine has recorded the longest jump of the group with a 21-00.00 effort. Holmes’ 56.19  is the best of any in the eight team field as well.
