(Treynor) The 5th ranked Treynor Cardinals are one game away from a chance at a boys state basketball tournament championship. Standing in their way is #3 West Fork. Tip-off is set for 3:45 Thursday.
If Treynor can make it to the finals it would be just their second time ever, with the first coming all the way back in 1972.This is Treynor's 5th appearance in the semi-finals. They've finished 4th in the state three times and runner up once. Thursday's game mark's West Fork's third semi-final game in the last four years. The Warhawks are the defending Class 2A runner up.
Each team has a long win streak going as they hit the semi's. West Fork's is at 14 games and Treynor's 22. Three of West Fork's top six scorers shoot 69% or better from the field including senior Sam Ambaugh who went off for 26 points in the first round win over West Marshall and is averaging 19.5 per game. Treynor on the other hand has just one player above 59%.
The winner will play either #1 Western Christian or #6 Cascade in the finals Friday night at 8:05pm. The consolation matchup is slated for 11:45 Friday morning.
