(Des Moines) Treynor will make their 13th appearance at the boys state basketball tournament Tuesday when they take on 21-4 North Cedar.
It's the Cardinals first trip to state since their 23-2 campaign in the 2010-11 season. Treynor rides a 21 game win streak into the tournament and holds the #5 ranking. In Class 2A only 3 other ranked teams qualified for the tournament. Jacob Flathers, Nick Paulsen, Trey Robinson, and Nolan Chapman lead a balanced attack for the Cardinals with all four of the teams leading scorers averaging between 9.6 and 12.5 points per game. Robinson's 64.1% from the field is among the best in the tournament field.
Treynor plays a North Cedar team making their 5th boys state basketball tournament trip and their 4th in a row. The Knights however, have failed to advance past the first round in each of the last two seasons. They've won only 1 state tournament game in their history and it came in 2011. This season half of the Knight's losses have come to fellow Class 2A state qualifier, #6 Cascade, the other two losses are to Mount Vernon and Iowa City Regina.
The game is scheduled to tip at 12:15pm.
