(Council Bluffs) Harlan heads to the Class 3A Boys State Basketball Tournament with a 22-2 record. The Cyclones downed Glenwood 54-29 in Monday's Sub-State Final at Abraham Lincoln High School.
Harlan got out to a 13-2 first quarter lead but saw the Rams battle back to make it a five point game by halftime. Harlan pushed the lead back up to 15 heading into the fourth quarter and put it away in the final frame.
Nathan Cave shot 7-10 from the field and led the team with 19 points. Adam Juhl with a dozen and Trey Lansman with 11 were also in double-figures. Gabe Ferry contributed in several categories with 6 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists.
Harlan coach Mitch Osborn says the team didn't play their best offensive game, but had plenty of defense to get the job done. He describes first round opponent Humboldt as a team with good guard play. Humboldt beat Carroll 70-62 to get to state.
One year after making a surprise run as the #8 seed to the state championship game, Harlan is the #1 seed in the tournament this year. They'll play Humboldt at 3:45 on Tuesday, March 11th.
