(Harlan) Harlan has been dominant in the postseason in boys basketball with back-to-back wins by 20 points or more. The Cyclones started the district trail with an 83-63 thrashing of ADM and kept the ball rolling last night in their 77-55 district final win over Perry. Harlan improves to 22-2 on the season.
Coach Mitch Osborn admits the team has picked it up a notch in the postseason and gives a lot of credit to senior Nate Gettys who led Perry leading scoring Shammond Ivory to just 5 points. Ivory came in averaging 20.6 per game. Perry's second leading scorer Will Whiton was held to just 4 points. Trey Lansman led the offense once again. Lansman scored 21 points in the district semi-finals and followed that up with a 13-22 shooting from 2-point range last night.
Another one of the keys for Harlan is the return from injury of senior point guard Adam Juhl. Juhl suffered a meniscus injury just a few weeks back, but coach Osborn says he is about ten days ahead of schedule from when they originally thought he would be able to return. Juhl's injury was once feared to be a season ender, but he missed just four games.
In the substate matchup Harlan will take on Glenwood for a third time. The Cyclones beat the Rams at home 61-39 and on the road 66-55. Glenwood enters at 14-9 overall. The Class 3A Substate Final will be played on Monday at Abraham Lincoln High School.
