(Des Moines) Atlantic/CAM Senior Darrian Schwenke won the Class 2A 126 pound State Wrestling Title at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Saturday night.

One might call it a perfect season for the Senior who finished with a 55-1 record. He avenged his only loss to Shadow Leshen, of Albia in the semi-finals. Leshen won a 10-6 decision at the Des Moines, Lincoln Tournament during the first week in January. Schwenke scored a late take down to win by a 5-3 decision when it counted at the State Tournament.

“That loss motivated me,” said Schwenke. “After that happened I started working out seven days a week with a goal to never lose another match. And I didn’t.”

Schwenke wrestled Brady Jennings, of Osage in the Championship. He scored a take-down and locked in a “turk” for three more back points to take a 5-1 lead. Jennings scores came by an escape and a take down late in the match.

Darrian, who finished the season with a 55-1 record says he is going to wrestle at the next level but hasn’t decided where he is going to go.

Two other’s medaled for Atlantic/CAM. Dillon Cox finished third at 120, and Tyler Christensen, was fourth at 220-pounds.
