(Adair) Friday night marks the third time around between conference foes Exira-EHK and Adair-Casey. The 8th rated Bombers have won both of the previous matchups, 66-55 on January 11th, and 36-33 on February 10th, but this is the one that counts as the winner advances to a regional final. We'll have this matchup on KSOM with pregame at 6:45p.m.
Priority #1 for the Exira-EHK defense will be slowing down Adair-Casey leading scorer London Vais. The Spartans were able to hold Vais to just 2 first half points in their last meeting, but Vais who ranks 3rd in Class 1A in scoring scored 12 in the second half as Adair-Casey got the win. Spartan coach Petersen admits the Bombers have other options too, and says a low scoring game favors his squad. He'd like to see his team hold Adair-Casey under 50 points.
Adair-Casey has defeated Boyer Valley and Heartland Christian thus far in the regional tournament. The Boyer Valley win took overtime before eventually winning by 10, and coach Cory Bartz notes 'Perserverence' played a big role in the 60-51 win over Heartland Christian on Tuesday.
Exira-EHK has rolled through the first two round of the regional tournament. They bested West Harrison 62-34 and then toppled Woodbine 74-48. Coach Petersen says Kennedy Madsen played by far her best game of the season against Woodbine. Madsen led a balanced scoring charge with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Other high scorers for Exira-EHK were Claire Paulsen and Rachel Smith each with 15 and Maggie Rassmussen off the bench with 11.
Adair-Casey is 21-3 on the season with 2 of those losses to 10th ranked Ar-We-Va, who hosts Kingsley-Pierson tonight in the other Region 8 Semi-final. Exira-EHK is 17-5 overall. Four of those losses have been to ranked opponents.
