(Anita) Exira-EHK moves on with a 60-53 win over Audubon. The Spartans improve to 6-16. Audubon's season comes to a close at 1-20.
Despite falling being 10-2 out of the gates, Exira-EHK picked up a 60-53 boys district basketball win over Audubon Monday. Trailing by 8 in the early going, the Spartans called a timeout and repsonded with a 10-0 run to take their first lead in the game. The Spartans quickly gave up the lead though and trailed the rest of the first half. Down eight with just over three minutes left in the half, the Spartans came up with a 7-0 run capped off by a Jared Hansen 3-pointer at the first half horn to make it a 27-26 game at the break. After a series of lead changes early in the third, Exira-EHK used another 7-0 to go up 41-34 and never trailed the rest of the way, holding a 6-9 point lead for most of the rest of the way. Audubon did make a late push with Lake Hacker hitting a 3-pointer and following it up with a steal and layup to make it a three point game at 53-50 with 1:30 to play. Exira-EHK though would hit their next four free-throws and Audubon never got closer.
Jake Paulsen led Exira-EHK with 17 points in the win. Despite missing much of the first half with foul trouble, Drew Peppers added 13 and Jared Hansen's 9 points were also key. Lake Hacker contributed 15 points for Audubon and Mitchell Nelsen pitched in with 14.
