(Guthrie Center) Guthrie Center led from start to finish in a 47-29 first round regional tournament win over CAM Thursday. The Tigers improve to 7-14 on the season and advance to play Ankeny Christian on Tuesday.
The game started off very slow for both sides with Guthrie Center leading 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. The two teams combined for only one field goal in the field goal in the first quarter and the second basket of the game didn't come until the 2:54 mark in the first half. The scoring picked up late in the first half and Guthrie Center led 14-9 at the break.
The Tigers quickly built a double-figure lead thanks to a 12-0 run to start the third quarter. CAM fought right back though with a 10-0 run of their own to get back within 7 points. Mackenzie Schwenke's two three-pointers kick started the comeback attempt. Guthrie Center would respond though by scoring the final three points of the quarter to lead by 10 heading into the fourth. From there the Tigers cruised, building the lead to as large as 20 points.
Kasie Schrek had a big second half and led Guthrie with 15 points. Mallory Osen chipped in 13 and Morgan Mozingo contributed 9.
Outside of the 10-0 spurt midway thorugh the third quarter, CAM struggled throughout the night on offense. Schwenke led the team with 8 points. CAM's two seniors Alyssa Kragelund and Erin Dauerghty scored 6 and 5 points respectively. CAM closes out the season at 3-19 overall.
