(Creston) #4 Creston-Orient-Macksburg will matchup against #5 rated Clear Lake at the State Team Dual Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, February 19. The Panthers defeated Atlantic/CAM 40-22 in a Regional Dual Team Final at Creston Tuesday night.
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead with Gavin Leith’s major decision at 152. However, Trojan senior 160-pounder Jacob Johnson avenged four straight losses to Creston’s Taylor Pettit with a 3-1 overtime decision to close the gap to 4-3.
But it was short lived. The Panthers went on a roll wining four straight including; back-to-back pins from Adam Baker, at 170, Trevor Frain, at 185, Kaden Hulett’s Tech Fall at 195 and Seth Maitlens’ decision at 220, extended the Panther’s lead to 24-3.
Then the Trojans won five out of their next six matches: Jez Phippen, (285), won by a 1-0 decision, Dillon Cox, fall, at (120), Marshall McDermott, 4-2 decision at (126), and Darrian Schwenke’s, 17-5 major decision at (132) narrowed the score to 30-22. But Creston closed the door on the Trojan rally with a major decision at 138 and fall at 145, to end the match 40-22.
Creston and Clear Lake will square off at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 19, which is the beginning of the four-day Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament.
