(Audubon) The Audubon Wheelers have wrapped up their regular season in wrestling and now eye the Sectional Tournament coming up on Saturday. Audubon will have the luxury of wrestling in their own gym and will welcome AHST, Woodbine, Exira-EHK, Treynor, East Mills, and Riverside.
Coach Blane Kerkhoff says the team looked good in their three duals last week. They followed that up with a team victory at their home tournament Saturday. Coach Kerkoff believes several wrestlers have the opportunity to advance to the district tournament and says a big goal for the team is to qualify for the regional duals. Doing so would give the team a chance to head back to the state duals for a second year in a row.
Audubon has two ranked wrestlers and three returning state qualifiers. Brad Kerkoff is ranked 6th at 126, he's coming off of a state appearance a year ago. Other returning state qualifiers include Kyle Juelsgaard at 113 and Chase Petersen who made the state tourney last year at 138. Trevor Smith is ranked 9th for Audubon at 145.
Sectional Tournament Wrestling gets undeway at noon on Saturday.
