(Harlan) Nathan Cave scored 21 points to lead Harlan (4-0) past Creston (4-1) 58-49 Tuesday night in a Hawkeye 10 Conference matchup that did not count in the conference standings.
It was a close game early on with Class 3A #1 Harlan leading 16-14 after the first quarter. Then Harlan would extend the lead to 27-20 at halftime with a solid defensive second quarter. The Cyclones hit five three-pointers in the third quarter to help take control. Harlan would only trail on two different ocassions in the game and their lead swelled up to as many as 18 in the second half before Creston fought their way back. Jay Wolfe scored 20 of his game high 25 points after the break and helped bring the Panthers within as close as six in the final minutes.
Harlan though would make four of their five free throw attempts in the fourth quarter and stay unbeaten with the nine point win. Trey Lansman scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half, he was saddled with foul trouble after the break. Adam Juhl (11) and Kyle Juhl (10) also finished in double figures for Harlan.
