(Harlan) If there was any doubt that the Harlan girls basketball team is for real this season, it was likely erased Tuesday night. Harlan controlled that game from the opening tip in a 69-17 home win over Creston.
The Cyclones eliminated any drama in the game by racing out to a 29-3 first quarter lead. They would continue to open things up in the second quarter to lead 50-7 at halftime. With the running clock in effect the Cyclones cruised to a 69-17 victory and 4-0 start to the year.
Harlan head coach Zach Klaassen said the win ranks right up there with the Denison-Schleswig victory in terms of the team's top performances so far this year. Coming up on Friday is a big matchup with Lewis Central. The Titans were the only team to beat Harlan in the regular season last year. LC opened the season ranked #2 in Class 4A right behind top rated Harlan, but the Titans have dropped in the rankings with losses to Red Oak and Shenandoah.
