(Harlan) The Class 4A #1 ranked Harlan girls basketball team will be featured in our KSOM basketball coverage Tuesday night. The unbeaten Cyclones host 3-3 Creston.
Harlan has been dominant in their three outings so far this year. The Cyclones are 3-0 with an average margin of victory of 40 points per game. They've scored at least 60 points in each contest while never allowing more than 30. Creston’s .500 record includes wins against Orient-Macksburg, Mount Ayr, and Atlantic with losses to Winterset, Glenwood, and Shenandoah. Panther head coach Larry McNutt admits Harlan is good in about every phase of the game and goes as far as saying he expects them to be state champs when it’s all said and done.
Jenna Taylor leads Creston averaging 16.3 points per game. Taylor, a sophomore, has posted multiple 20 points games this season. Harlan is also led in scoring by sophomore, Taylor Frederick averages 16.7 points per game on 70% field goal shooting. The Cyclones have the luxury of pair Frederick with fellow six-footer Jess Schaben who boasts an average of 13.3 points per game and shoots 60% from the field.
