(Avoca) AHST held off several Griswold comeback attempts in a 53-40 boys basketball win. The Vikings were led by 17 points from Steven Jacobsen and 15 from Lee Whyte. Drew Young also finished in double figures for AHST with 10.

Griswold held an 11-10 lead after the first quarter. Tyrel Peters got the Tigers off to a quick start with 7 of his game high 19 points coming in the first quarter. It was a back and forth battle with no breathing room for either side in the first half. At the break the game was tied 21 all.

AHST began the 2nd half on a 6-0 run, but Griswold would fight back and actually take a lead late in the third quarter. AHST reclaimed that lead in the final minute of the third and then got a big three point make by Dalton Maassen as the third quarter buzzer sounded to lead 37-32 heading to the fourth.

AHST built the lead up to double figures over the final eight minutes and never relinquished the advantage. The Vikings shot 6/8 from the free throw line in the second half with Jacobsen and Young combining to go 6/6.

Griswold drops to 2-1 on the year and AHST moves to 2-0.
