(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley sophomore Jackson Lamb got his season off to a dream start Tuesday night in a 66-63 win over Clarinda. The first year starter filled up the scoring sheet with 30 points. He had 14 after the first quarter and 21 at halftime. Lamb would connect on four three pointers and hit 8-9 from the free throw line.
Nodaway Valley led by double figures early but foul trouble allowed Clarinda to claw back to within two at halftime. In the 2nd half Nodaway Valley appeared to take control with a 14-0 run to start the third quarter only to see Clarinda fight closer with an 8-3 run to start the fourth quarter. Back to back three pointers by Troy Alrich and Justin Cabeen late in the fourth made it a one posession game, but the Cardinals were never able to close the gap to any closer than three points.
Noah Bix posted a big second half to lead Clarinda in scoring with 15. Jason McCall and Cabeen also posted double figures. In addition to Lamb's 30 points, Nodaway Valley had TJ Bower pitch in 13. Bower sat much of the 2nd quarter with foul trouble and eventually fouled out with :51 left.
0-1 Clarinda will play Hawkeye 10 power Kuemper Catholic on Friday. 1-0 Nodaway Valley opposes East Union next.
