(Cedar Rapids) #1 Harlan topped #6 Charles Charles City 3 sets to 2 in a battle in the Class 4A State Volleyball Semi-Finals. The win earns the Cyclones the right to play for a state title on Friday against Solon.
It was a see-saw battle between this year's #1 Harlan and last year's champion Charles City. The Comets took set one 25-17 only to see Harlan battle back and win set two 28-26. Charles City swung the momentum back in their favor with a 25-18 win in set three but Harlan evened things right back up by taking set 4 25-20. Then came the fifth and final set which Harlan won 15-12 to set up a rematch with Solon. Solon beat Harlan in last year's first round and went on to place 2nd. The two teams will play Friday at noon in the championship match.
Harlan All-stater Jess Schaben racked up another monster number of kills with 31. The number of kill attempts for Schaben was a whopping 81. Taylor Frederick added 11 kills for the Cyclones who are now 36-4 on the season. Asia Kloewer led the team in digs with 21 while Kenzie Swanson mounted up 47 assists.
