(Avoca) When you look at the season stats up to this point, scoring may be a big challenge when AHST and West Lyon get together in the UNI-Dome Friday afternoon.
West Lyon is allowing just 7.6 points per game while AHST boasts a defensive average of just over 10. West Lyon has never allowed more than two scored in a game this season and has two shutouts while AHST has only given up more than two scores in a game twice this year and also has a pair of shutouts.
Offensively the teams have a similar objective and that goal is to establish the running game. West Lyon's 3,904 rushing yards are third best in Class A while AHST's total of 3,142 is in the top five. Senior Kaleb Heyer leads West Lyon with 1,103 rushing yards on the season with Bennett Feuchtenberger pitching in 921 yards on the ground. AHST has a 1-2 combo of their own with Kyle Bauerkemper (1,197) and Nathan Herbst (925).
West Lyon has shown convincing wins in postseason play with a 35-12 outcome against Newman Catholic, a 50-7 win against Lawton-Bronson, plus a quarterfinal decision over Bishop Garrigan 21-7. AHST's path to the dome featured a first round win over Guthrie Center 56-13, followed by a 24-16 win over Madrid and a 38-14 defeat of Audubon.
We'll have the broadcast of this Class A semi-final on KSOM Friday with pregame starting at around 1:00.
