(Harlan) It's the third straight year that Harlan heads east to the State Volleyball Tournament for the third straight year. Following first round losses in back-to-back seasons the Cyclones, ranked #1 in the state, are considered among the teams to beat in this year's tourney.
Harlan head coach Angie Spangenburg says LeMars is a very talented team that is very balanced with their hitting. LeMars ousted traditional power Bishop Heelan Catholic in the regional finals. Harlan has been focusing on fundamentals in practice such as serve receive and passing.
The Cyclones have Class 4A's leader in kills with Jess Schaben having 478. Coach Spangenburg says Schaben is a great kid who is very unselfish and plays hard. LeMars is led by Madison Heidebrink with 271 kills.
The winner will play either #6 Charles City or #4 Waverly-Shell Rock in the Semi-Finals on Thursday at noon.
