(Avoca) It has been over two months since Audubon and A-H-S-T squared off in a week two non-district football game. The Vikings prevailed 34-14 and enter Friday night’s contest with an 11-0 record. The Vikings took out post season opponents Guthrie Center 56-13, and Madrid, 24-16.
After losing that game to A-H-S-T, Audubon has won nine in a row including post season shut outs over Riverside 39-0, and East Mills, 24-0.
“We can’t give up any big plays on defense,” stated Audubon Co-Head Coach Sean Birks. “A-H-S-T was able to break about a 65-yarder against Madrid that really changed that game. They are going to be tough to keep off the scoreboard. It would be nice to do it again, but realistically it is going to be a lot tougher than our last two games.”
Viking Head Coach Davis Pattee says Audubon is about as balanced as any team he’s seen and there is not one key that he can point to.
Rattenborg and Lucas-Smith Petersen are very fast and elusive,” stated Pattee. “ They have shown it on offense, defense and on special teams. We can’t let them have too much space. The backfield with Jones and Mulford and Quarterback Trevor Smith rushing the football are very good. And their line is much improved. So there is not one key that we can make.”
Smith-Petersen has caught 31-passes for 393 total receiving yards and four touchdowns. Rattenborg has snagged 13-passes for 227-yards. Wheeler quarterback Trevor Smith has completed 54.7 percent of his passes for 833 yards and 8 touchdowns and Tailback Riley Jones leads the ground attack with 1,349 yards, averaging 6.0 yards a carry, and 25 touchdowns.
Viking tailback Kyle Bauerkemper has had a great season. He has racked up 1,075 yards and averages 6.8 yards a carry. Not to mention his 17-touchdowns, including his longest and 83-yarder. A-H-S-T quarterback Nathan Herbst can run the ball as well with 865-total yards on the ground, and 11 touchdowns. Herbst is also a very capable quarterback. He has completed 52-percent of his passes for 823-yards, and 11-touchdowns.
