(Stanton) It was another monster night for Stanton volleyball star Carmen Subbert on Wednesday. The senior helped deliver a regional final win for the Viqueens with 27 kills. Stanton got by Murray in three, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-17.
The Viqueens improve to 37-5 on the season and take the #6 ranking into next week's Class 1A state tournament. They'll see 23-11 LeMars Gehlen Catholic in the first round. None of Stanton's losses this season have come to Class 1A opponents. Coach Jody Druvinga says the team is determined to represent southwest Iowa in a good way at state this year. Coach Druvinga says in addition to Subbert several others stepped up and played a strong match. That list includes Mariah Kammerer who played her best game of the season according to coach Druvinga. She says the team was able to rally back in sets one and two to help them take the upper hand in the contest.
Stanton will play at 4:00 on November 13th. If they win they would see ither 45-4 Holy Trinity Catholic or 23-6 Guthrie Center in the semi-finals on Thursday, November 14th at 6:00.
