(Avoca) AHST edged Tri-Center 20-14 in a very, very close game to start the season.

The game started with a bang as AHST fullback Kyle Bauerkemper rumbled 83 yards to the house on the first offensive play of the game. The Vikings added another touchdown midway through the first quarter when Nathan Herbst found Terry Shannon for a nine yard passing score.

Tri-Center's first dent in the scoring column came on a powerful touchdown run by fullback Ben Wellman. The senior ran over defenders en route to a 32 yard TD. AHST answered with 2:30 left in first half when Bauerkember ran his way into the end zone again, this time from 15 yards out.

Ben Wellman's 78 yard TD run in the fourth quarter got Tri-Center back within striking distance at 20-14. Tri-Center forced a late fumble to get one last chance at a come back. The Trojan's moved down to the doorstep be were turned away at the two yard line as time expired.
