(Clarinda) The Atlantic Football team survived the heat and a tough Clarinda defense with a 7-3 win Friday night.
The Cardinals struck first with just under two-minutes to play in the first quarter. Nathan Jones broke loose on a 49-yard run which set up a Troy Aldrich 23-yard field goal. That lead would stand until the 7:31 mark to play in the third quarter when Atlantic Junior Quarterback Joey Walker fired a 25-yard touchdown strike to Sophomore Flanker Brendon Holmes. Matt Smith kicked the point after and Atlantic took a 7-3 lead and that is how the game ended.
Trojan Quarterback Joey Walker completed 6-of-14 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown and the Trojans ground out 156 yards rushing for a total of 238-yards of offense. Clarinda piled up 177 total offensive yards all on the ground.
Clarinda turned the ball over three times two on the ground, and Reid Nichols snagged an interception. The Trojans fumbled twice to Clarinda once on the Cardinal goal line.
