(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley football coach Steve Shantz admits top ten ranked Mount Ayr will be a 'tough challenge' for his team on Friday night. The Wolverines open up the season by hosting a Mount Ayr squad that went undefeated in 2012 regular season.

Shantz says stopping Mount Ayr quarterback Jacob Sobotka will be the first priority. Sobotka tallied 41 touchdowns last season. One area that Nodaway Valley may have an advantage is at the wide out spot. The Wolverines feature a lot of height and speed at that position led by first-year senior TJ Bower. Breaking in at quarterback this season is sophomore Jackson Lamb who coach Shantz says has looked really good at times and has struggled at others.

Nodaway Valley is trying to carry the momentum from a strong finish to the 2012 season. Nodaway Valley posted a late-season victory against Treynor before ending the regular season with a convincing win against Clarinda Academy.
