(Harlan) The Harlan Cyclones enter the 2013 football season ranked 3rd in the state by the Radio Iowa pre-season poll for Class 3A. The Cyclones are coming off of an 8-1 regular season, but lost in the first round of the playoffs which has the team hungry entering this season.
Harlan Cyclone head football coach Curt Bladt says they’ve spent time in practice this week correcting problems they identified from the scrimmage last week. Among those issues is getting everyone lined up properly to avoid penalties. As they gear up for the 2013 season, one thing they are hoping to find offensively is a little bit more balance offensively.
Quarterback Adam Juhl returns and will have several big targets to throw to. The backfield this year features a number of bigger running backs than they had last season. Coach Bladt is looking for more power rushing from that spot.
The Cyclones for the first time in several years may have some concerns about a lack of depth. They also have less size than they’ve had in recent history, but that is not a concern of coach Bladt saying, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."
Harlan will take on Denison-Schleswig on the road this Friday night. Their home opener is a week from Friday against Abraham Lincoln and we’ll have that game on KSOM2.
