(Stanton) One game into the regular season, the Stanton football team has already totaled half of their number of wins from a season ago.
The Vikings topped Nishnabotna 48-28 last Friday night. Trevor Wood had a kickoff return for a touchdown while Kyle Petersen took and interceptrion return 70 yards for a score. Coach Jeff Grebin says the defense rose to the occasion after the halftime break. According to the 2nd year head coach, the defense improved their pursuit angles and the tackling got better as the game went on.
Despite picking up the win, the coaching staff still identified plenty of areas to work on in practice this week. The team will be working through a lot of reps in practice to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Coach Grebin admits the team will have their hands full against SW Valley as Corning and Villisca each defeated the Vikings last season. He says defending the pistol formation provide lots of problems.
