(Harlan) Harlan volleyball team opens up the season ranked #1 in the state for Class 4A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Head coach Angie Spangenburg says rankings are just someone else’s opinion about your team, so she doesn’t get to excited or upset either way. The bottom line is you have to go out and earn it on the floor.
Harlan is led by all-stater Jess Schaben, now a junior, who averaged 4.23 kills per set last season (2nd best in Class 4A). Other key juniors returning include Ellie Kloewer, setter Kenzie Swanson, libero Asia Kloewer, and Taylor Wegner.
The Cyclones will open up the season this weekend when they welcome seven other teams for their home tournament. She says the team is, like everyone else, ready to get out on the court and get the season underway.
Treynor, East Sac, Abraham Lincoln, Denison-Schleswig, Glenwood, Underwood, and Winterset will be the teams coming to Harlan for the tourney. The following Saturday Harlan will compete in the WDM Valley tournament.
