(Audubon) The Audubon football team will feature some minor changes offensively this year as co-head coaches Sean Birks and Dustin Christianson take over the team. Birks will run the offense and says there is new terminology this year but the overall look will be pretty similar. The Wheelers are coming off of their first playoff appearance since the late 1990's which led to a great off season.
Expectations are high for the Wheelers given what they have coming back from last year's 5-5 team. One key to the success of the offense according to Coach Birks is the experience of the offensive line. Nathan Hagedorn, Dylan Jensen, Matt Fett and Nicholas Andreason all return as starters while Gage Spencer returns from injury to round out the front five. Those guys will pave the way for a long list of explosive skill position players. Riley Jones returns at running back, Trevor Smith at quarterback, with Lucas Smith-Peterson and Colby Rattenborg at wide receiver. Also expected to see ample opportunities on the offensive side are Matt Smith-Petersen, Drew Christensen, Derek Nielsen, and Jake Mulford.
Audubon will start the season this Friday night on the road against Riverside. Both teams will be going into the matchup without the luxury of knowing what exactly to expect from the other as both teams are guided by new coaching this season. Friday night's game between Riverside and Audubon will air on 96.5 KSOM.
