(Harlan) Harlan Community Activities Director Mitch Osborn is pleased to announce that Sam Brummer has been hired to take over as the head boys track coach at Harlan Community for the 2013-14 school year pending school board approval. Sam will replace long time head boys track coach Kenard Carstens.
Sam graduated from HCHS in 2007 & Buena Vista University in 2011. He was a long term substitute at Harlan Community in 2011-12 school year and is now starting his second year as 5th grade resource education teacher at the Harlan Community Intermediate school. Sam is currently coaching 7th grade football and has been MS boys track coach the last two years.
Sam was a 4 year letter winner in track at HCHS where he competed in the 110 High Hurdles, 400 Meter Hurdles & Shuttle Hurdle team. He was also a 3 year letter winner in football for the Cyclones and was an instrumental team member of the state champion football teams in 2004 & 05. Sam was named 2nd team all state, 1st team all district & 1st All SW IA his senior year as a linebacker for the Cyclones.
Sam went on to play football at Buena Vista University where he was a 3 year varsity letter winner. He was also awarded the Unsung Hero award in 2011
