(Avoca) The AHST volleyball team enters the 2013 season with high expectations thanks to a strong senior class.
Head coach Gwen Blum says outside hitters Haley Blum and Danika Grobe each return, Maddie Hamilton will likely step into the middle blocker position, while Allysa Beccera returns in the libero role.
Another positive is the familiarity throughout the program. Last year’s merger with Walnut brought new teammates and a new system, but now all of the kinks should be worked out. Coach Blum says the players learned a lot of new things in 2012 and will have much more knowledge and confidence this year.
One question mark entering the season is at the setter position. The Vikings will be looking to replace 2012 graduate Jessica Helms. Juniors Marissa Kay and McKenna Martin are each working to earn that spot.
Coach Blum lists Underwood, Treynor, and Tri-Center as some possible top contenders in the Western Iowa Conference this year. The conference also adds Logan-Magnolia and IKM-Manning this year.
