AHST FOOTBALL TEAM RETURNS A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE

(Avoca) The AHST Vikings are coming off of a 7-4 football campaign a year ago that featured a first round playoff win over Madrid before being eliminated by Logan-Magnolia in the following round.

As the Vikings finish up their first week of football practice, AHST head coach says it’s hard to know exactly what to expect from this year’s squad until he see’s them in full pads, but is expecting the team to be better overall than they were last year.

AHST was extremely young a year ago. The staff is hoping last year’s experience pays off. Nathan Herbst, now a sophomore, returns at quarterback. Austin Fink, who recorded 95 tackles last season, will have a big role on both sides of the ball. Fink was among the team's leading rushers in addition to being the leading receiver last season.

AHST graduated 6 seniors including Jake Larson who led the team in tackles each of the last two seasons and led the squad in rushing last season, but they do bring back a majority of their starters on each side of the ball. They’ll open up the season two weeks from today against Tri-Center in a game we’ll air on KSOM2.
