(Adair) The Adair-Casey football team is just 8 days away from kicking off their 2013 season. The Bombers are coming off of a 10-2 season a year ago.
Adair-Casey returns several key components from last year’s squad most notably senior Running Back Clayton Plowman who is on the verge of a number of state rushing records. The four year starter needs just 967 yards to become Iowa’s all-time leading rusher for 8-man football. Plowman’s 100 career touchdowns currently rank 4th best all-time.
Coach Wade Anderson however says the records are not something on the top of the minds of any of the Adair-Casey players or coaches. The main goal for the team is to get back to the UNI-Dome for the first time since 2009.
Anderson says the Bombers may need to limit Plowman’s carries from time to time throughout the regular season to ensure he’s at 100% during the playoffs. That shouldn’t be a problem considering the long list of other explosive options including Traeton Jensen, Emmitt Wheatley, and Charlie Terry.
Jensen, who will take over at the quarterback spot this year averaged 11.4 yards per carry while Terry, a tight end and fullback, averaged 11.1 yards per carry last season. Emmitt Wheatley, a state track qualifier, is expected to be utilized in a variety of ways for an Adair-Casey team that averaged 55 points per game last season.
