(Audubon) The Audubon Wheeler football team, like the rest of the area squads, is nearing completion of the first week of practice. The excitement level for the upcoming season may be as high as it’s been in quite some time. Co-head coach Dustin Christiansen says a lot of that is driven by last year’s trip to the postseason. Coach Christianson admits that it won’t be easy to get back to the playoffs with traditional powers like Madrid and Woodward-Granger plus some other potential up and comers such as Earlham and Guthrie Center.
Audubon returns the majority of their starters on defense along including the entire defensive line. On offense the Wheelers look to be set at the skill positions with their starting QB Trevor Smith, starting running back Riley Jones, and top two receivers Lucas-Smith Petersen and Colby Rattenborg all returning. The team went 5-5 in 2012.
