(Sioux City) KCAU-TV in Sioux City is reporting that former Bishop Heelan running back Brandon Wegher will be eligible to play college football at Morningside College this season.

While in high school, Wegher ran for a state record 3,238 yards during his senior season. His career total 6,823 yards is third best on the all-time list. After graduating in 2009 he enrolled at the University of Iowa where he spent just one season. He ran for 641 yards and set an Iowa freshman running record with 8 touchdowns, but left the team at year’s end for personal reasons. Since then Wegher has had brief stops with the Oklahoma Sooners and Iowa Western Rievers, but has not played in an actual game since to 2010 Orange Bowl when Iowa defeated Georgia Tech.

Morningside is an NAIA program from the Great Plains Athletic Conference. They finished as the national runner up a year ago with a 13-1 record. The pre-season conference favorite checks in at #2 in the preseason national rankings.
