(Harlan) Another round of Harlan Cyclone baseball will come your way Friday afternoon on KSOM. The 29-7 Cyclones will play in the state semi-finals against 36-3 Clear Lake in a game scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Harlan advanced to the second round with a 4-0 victory over defending champ Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday. The 3rd rated Cyclones will see a 2nd ranked Clear Lake squad that scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh on Tuesday to defeat Chariton 5-4. It was a wild comeback for the Lions who were down to their final out and still trailing 4-2. An intentional walk loaded the bases and then a carrying line drive to right field drifted over the head of a charging right fielder for a walk-off triple.
Looking at the state tournament history for each of these squads...Harlan has been a state qualifier 13 times and have won state titles in 1996 and 2003. Their most recent runner up finish was in 2011. Clear Lake has been to the state baseball tournament in 1997 and 2003. They are 1-2 in their previous appearances.
