(Harlan) The Harlan Cyclones have made back to back state tournament appearances and after a 6-2 win on Monday over Carroll they are one step closer to returning to Des Moines. The Cyclones victory over the Tigers in the district final advances them to the sub-state matchup on Wednesday where they will take on Glenwood.

Harlan scored their six runs on eight hits and seven walks. The majority of the production came with two outs. The scoring started when Jake Daegas reached on an error in the first and eventually scored on David Ratigan's RBI single. Ratigan would also score in the inning on a wild pitch. Ratigan's run gave Harlan a 2-0 lead which they held until the fourth inning. In that fourth frame it was Carroll stringing together three hits to score two runs. Nate O'Brien and Kacy Snyder each singled and scored in the inning. Luke Vonnahme and Mason Millard drove in the runs. With the game tied at two, Harlan responded right away in the bottom of the 4th inning. After the first two batters were retired, Adam Juhl lined a base hit to center field which was followed by three straight walks. Ratigan delivered another RBI hit, a two run single to give Harlan a 5-2 cushion. The Cyclones added one more in the sixth inning when Jake Daeges led off the frame with a triple and scored on Ratigan's double. Ratigan finished 3-3 with 4 RBI and one walk.

Nick Kaufman and Jake Daeges combined to handle the pitching duties for the Cyclones. Kaufman pitched the first 3 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, one walk, and two runs. Daeges went the rest of the way and gave up only one hit with two walks.

3rd ranked Harlan moves to 27-7 on the season. The Cyclones have won 16 of their last 17 contests. They'll face 28-7 Glenwood, the Rams are rated 8th. Carroll's season ends with ten wins and seventeen losses.
