(Neola) Some say it's not how you start, it's how you finish. It seems that could pass as the team slogan this year for the Tri-Center softball team.
Despite losing six straight games to start the season and nine of their first eleven contests of the year, the Trojans are two wins away from the state tournament. They won their regional tournament opener 4-0 over IKM-Manning backed by Malory Christensen's no-hitter. Christiansen walked only three batters and struck out 9 in the complete game shutout. She now has 204 K's on the season which ranks 5th best in Class 2A.
The win sets up a matchup with rival Treynor. Tri-Center split with the Cardinals in their regular season meetings, winning the most recent matchup 8-7. Friday night in Treynor will be the setting for their regional semi-final contest. Treynor enters at 26-5, rated 2nd in Class 2A. Unranked Tri-Center is 12-14.
