(Anita) No matter what the sport is, the goal of all teams is to enter the postseason at your peek. The CAM baseball team appears to be doing exactly that. The Cougars picked up a quality win over Coon Rapids-Bayard Wednesday night to finish off the regular season at 15-5. The 4-3 victory was CAM's 8th straight and 12th in their last 13 games. A 2-1 setback to Orient-Macksburg on June 20th is the team's only setback in over a month.
A three run third inning had CAM leading the Crusaders 3-2 going into the 7th inning. Coon Rapids-Bayard though was able to rally for a run forcing the Cougars to have to come to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jarrad Cavin was able to get on base with a walk and stole second base bringing Michael Holste to the plate. With two strikes in the at bat, Holste hit a slow roller on the left side of the infield that he legged out for an infield single. Cavin rounded third and head for home. The senior slid in ahead of the tag to plate the game winning run in the final home game of his career. Cavin also pitched a complete game for the win on the mound.
CAM will oppose Logan-Magnolia in the first round of the district tournament next week. If they can get past the Panthers they would see AHST, West Harrison, or Exira-EHK in the following round.
