(Atlantic) Saydel pounced on Atlantic seemingly from the moment they got off the bus in Tuesday's regional tournament opener. They eventually prevailed 15-13 in a game that featured several hits, walks, and errors.
The Eagles came out swinging with two runs in the first, two more in the second, and tacked on another pair of runs in the 3rd to lead 6-0. Atlantic meanwhile left the bases loaded in each the first and the second innings before finally cracking the scoreboard with two runs in the 3rd inning. Saydel responded right away with a three run 4th inning to take a 9-2 lead. Atlantic clawed back into contention in the fifth scoring three runs one three hits. Emily Mitchell's two RBI triple was the big hit in the inning. Saydel's offense wasn't done however as they scored four more in the 6th inning. That's when the craziness started...Atlantic trailed 13-5 entering the seventh inning and scored eight runs, including six of them with two outs. The Trojans came up with three hits, two walks, and one hit batter in the inning plus used the benefit of a Saydel error to come back and force extra innings. Saydel though would have another response in the top of the 8th inning when the first two batters reached on errors and then were singled home by Annika Hofbauer. Atlantic went down in order in the bottom of the 8th.
Saydel improves to 17-17 heading into the regional semi-finals. They will play 5th ranked Bondurant-Farrar. Atlantic sees their season come to an end with 18 wins and 22 losses.
