(Red Oak) The Atlantic baseball team has won three of their last four games to improve to 10-18 overall this season. Monday's win marked a breakthrough offensively for Atlantic.
The Trojans scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the third to lead 8-1 through three innings in a very high scoring contest at Red Oak Monday. The Trojans would eventually lead 14-1 with a six run top of the 4th before Red Oak's bats got rolling. The Tigers posted ten runs in the frame to avoid the ten run rule coming into effect. Atlantic scored three more times in the fifth to extend the lead from 14-11 to 17-11, but Red Oak supplied more offense in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 17-13 contest through six innings. One more big round of productivity at the plate came for Atlantic in the top of the 7th when the team plated five runs to win the game 23-13.
Offensive highlights were plentiful for Atlantic who was led by Chad Christensen and Dalton Franken's three hits each. Christensen, Zach Nelsen, Sam Markham, Joey Walker and Logan Steffens all had two RBI's each in the win.
Ryan Hawkins was the winning pitching going four innings and allowing seven hits. Just 2 of the 11 runs he gave up were earned. Joey Walker pitched the final three innings and gave up only one hit in that span. Each of the runs Walker gave up were unearned.
