(Anita) A five run 2nd inning proved to be the difference in Stanton's first round regional win over CAM Monday night. The Viqueens jumped out to a 4-0 advantage early on and held on for a 5-1 win.
Stanton had three hits in their big 2nd inning and used several CAM errors to their advantage. Kimber Wagg got things started in the 2nd when she reached on an error followed by a Devin Druivenga base hit. Wagg would then score on a fielder's choice by Heidi Vanderholm that put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Next up was Macy Elwood who loaded the bases with an infield single. The big hit in the inning came from Carmen Subbert who cleared the bases with a hit to center field.
Stanton added to their 4-0 lead with a run in the 5th inning. With two outs in the frame, Roey Sink and Wagg put together back to back hits. Wagg's RBI double made it a five run game. CAM inched closer with their lone run coming in the bottom of the fifth. Tehya Hansen reached second base on an error and was bunted to third by Mackenzie Schwenke. Brookelyn Wahlert's sacrifice fly to right field scored Hansen for CAM's only run.
Roey Sink pitched the win for Stanton giving up just three hits and one walk while striking out one in seven innings. Stanton moves to 14-8 and will play 22-7 Exira-EHK on Wednesday. Stanton totalled 9 hits off of CAM sophomore Mackenzie Schwenke who struck out four and walked noone. CAM's season is over at 4-18.
