(Avoca) An 18-3 win over Riverside on Monday night coupled with a 17-0 win over Stanton late last week has the AHST baseball looking strong heading down the stretch. The Vikings have finished out their Western Iowa Conference schedule with a 5-8 record and are 7-12 overall.
The top five hitters in the order each had two hits in Monday's win. Head coach Jason Holst points out that the team also took advantage of eight walks to score a season high 18 runs against Riverside. Steven Jacobsen pitched the win to improve his pitching record to 5-3. Jacobsen struck out seven batters and lowered his season ERA to 3.53.
In high school baseball it’s that time of the year where most of the area schools are trying to play as many high level non-conference games as they can to best prepare themselves for the postseason. In AHST’s case, that means playing Coon Rapids-Bayard Wednesday Coach Jason Holst says his young team has come together nicely, and believes the Crusaders will present a good opportunity to his team. Counting Wednesday night they have three games remaining in the regular season before opposing West Harrison in the first round of district play.
