(Kimballton) When asked about the highlights of the season to this point in the year, Exira-EHK softball coach Jana Smith paused and then said, "The girls have meshed, it's been a very supportive group with good chemistry on the team. A lot of support from the dugout and another big highlight is the young kids stepping up and doing a lot for us. Everyone is working with their role and being satisfied with it. That's huge, you have to have that."
That tight knit bond has helped lead the Spartans to a 21-6 record heading into their final two regular season games. After winning the Rolling Hills Conference title comfortably, the Spartans attempted to schedule some strong non-conference teams to prepare them for next weeks regional tournament.
Exira-EHK passed the first two of those tests with a 2-0 win over West Central Valley on Friday and a 14-2 win over Thomas Jefferson on Monday. Next up are Tri-Center tonight and Treynor on Saturday.
Monday's win against was statistacally one of their best showings this season on the offensive end. The 14 runs matches a season high. Kennedy Madsen hit a home run, her fourth of the season. Madsen and Rachel Walker each finished with two hits in the win. Rachel Smith picked up her 21st win of the season in the pitcher's circle. Smith is 21-1 with a .29 ERA and 301 strikeouts.
