(Atlantic) Logan Steffens RBI single in the bottom of the 8th inning lifted Atlantic past Denison/Schleswig 4-3 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference baseball game at Atlantic Thursday night. The Trojans scored four runs on eight hits and committed two errors.
The Monarchs jumped out to a one-nothing lead in the top of the third. Devin Platt singled and crossed home plate on a Trojan error. But, Atlantic bounced right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one a piece on Chad Christiansen’s RBI single. Denison/Schleswig regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Devin Platt knocked a two-RBI single to give the Monarch’s a 3-1 advantage. But in the sixth it was Chad Christiansen again with a base hit that scored two runs to tie contest at 3-3.
In the bottom of the eighth Dalton Franken singled, advanced to second on Brendon Holmes walk and Logan Steffens stepped up and drove the ball to deep centerfield scoring Franken from third base for the winning run.
Franken ended the night with a double and a single and one run scored. Chad Christiansen had two singles and three RBI’s. Sam Markham had two base hits, Brody Petersen hit a double, and Kray Lukehart had a base hit for the Trojans. Tristen Benn picked up the win on the mound. He allowed two runs on five hits, struck out four, walked two and hit two batters.
The Monarchs scored three runs on five hits. Devin Platt had two hits and two RBI’s, and Derek Krohnke, Brayden Schurke, each singled for the 10-12 Monarchs.
