(Harlan) Harlan and Glenwood split a softball doubleheader played last night in Harlan.
The Rams of Glenwood took game one by a 2-0 final. It was Glenwood’s ninth shutout win of the season backed by Junior Lisa Nebel who struck out six batters and allowed six hits over seven innings. Harlan stranded six runners on base in game one including four who were left at third base. Harlan senior pitcher Taylor Schaben struck out 10 batters and allowed only two hits but took the loss. Schaben carried a no-hitter through five innings, but Glenwood forced the action in the sixth. The Rams started the inning on a leadoff walk and eventually scored on and RBI single by Sara Ingoldsby. Jaelin Stanton also produced an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead which would go on to be the final score.
Harlan earned the split with a 5-0 decision in game two. Both pitchers threw well again in the nightcap. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Harlan freshman Logan Schaben led off the frame with a double and was singled home by Taylor Schaben. The one run lead proved to be all Harlan would need, but the Cyclones did add to it with a four run sixth. The team got a leadoff single by Taylor Schaben and a 2 RBI base hit by Danielle Weyer plus took advantage of Glenwood’s fielding mistakes to pad their lead. Taylor Schaben was the winning pitcher allowing two hits and no walks while striking out five over seven innings.
Harlan is now 14-3 while Glenwood is 12-8.
