(Atlantic) Atlantic took two from Clarinda in a doubleheader softball game at Atlantic Monday night. The Trojans over came an 8-0 deficit to defeat the Cardinals 9-8 in eight innings, and grabbed the night cap 4-2.
In the first game the Cardinals got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning with five runs on five hits. They added three runs on two hits in the top of the second to take an 8-0 lead. Kary Buch hit a two RBI double and a two run homer during the two inning stretch for Clarinda.
Atlantic responded with one run in the third and seven runs on three hits in the sixth inning to tie the game. Reann Cappel, Emily Mitchell, Marin Mcnees, and Tori Bruck all had RBI’s in the inning. In the 8th Reann Cappel knocked a lead-off single and scored the winning run on an error.
In the first game for Atlantic ReAnn Cappel went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored. Emily Mitchell 2 for 5 with a double, 2 RBIs and a game saving over the shoulder catch in LF in the seventh inning. Tori Bruck was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Erin Olsen 2 for 5 with a double and game winning RBI.
For Clarinda, Emily Beadle was four-for-four, Kary Buch, two-for-four including a two-run homer and four RBI’s. Abby Brown was 2-4 with one RBI.
Leah Tjekes pitched the win for Atlantic; Marissa Anderson took the loss for Clarinda.
The Trojans scored three runs on four hits in the top of the first in game two and never relinquished the lead. Cappel, Mackenzie Holmes, Bruck and Josie Anzalone each singled in the inning. The Trojans tacked on one more run in the bottom of the third on Brooke Newell’s RBI single. Clarinda’s two runs came in the top of the fifth on Marissa Anderson and Kary Buch’s RBI singles.
Tori Bruck picked up the win for Atlantic, and Emily Beadle took the loss for Clarinda.
Offensively for the Trojans, ReAnn Cappel went two-for-four, Mackenzie Holmes had a double and an RBI, Tori Bruck was two-for-three with two doubles and an RBI, and Josie Anzalone went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Atlantic hosts Carroll in a doubleheader at Atlantic tonight.
