(Iowa City) Sixth, Seventh, and eighth graders who are interested in trying out for the Team Iowa Football team mark this date down, July 27. Former Walnut standout athlete and former University of Iowa Football player Tyler Blum is the Director of the FBU Team Iowa. Blum says with 64 Regional teams, the FBU National Championship is the single biggest event in Youth Football.

Blum says that, “FBU stands for Football University.  They are a nationwide football organization that goes around and recognizes high-level youth football players and they go around with a nationwide tour of camps and clinics and our biggest involvement with them is the national championship tournament.”

All eligible Participants must be entering the 6th, 7th, or 8th grades as of September 1, 2013.

Blum announces that, “This is marketed as a cross between the NCAA Men’s March Madness and the Little League World Series.  We put together a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade team, three different teams, and we compete in the sixty-four team single elimination national championship tournament.  The Final Four is in San Antonio, Texas and FBU crowns the national champion every year.”

The team tryouts will be held at 4440 Mills Civic Parkway, in West Des Moines the morning of July 27.

“This is some elite talent level kids in the state of Iowa.  After we narrow our list down, we will kind of keep an eye on these kids throughout their season.  We will keep an eye on them because the FBU national championship tournament doesn’t actually start till December 7th and 8th, so these kids will be able to go through their season,” adds Blum.  Once they go through their season, we will bring them back for our padded tryout, later in the fall, and narrow our roster down to 35 young athletes, so we can get ready for the tournament.”

Registration on July 27, for the 8th graders will be at 9:00 a.m., 7th graders at 10:00 a.m., and sixth graders at 11:00 a.m. The tryouts will begin an hour after registration starts. The fee is $35.00 which includes a T-Shirt.
