(Atlantic) A seven run first inning led Denison/Schleswig past Atlantic 10-6 Monday night in a Hawkeye Ten Conference Baseball game at Denison.

The Trojans grabbed a 3-0 nothing lead in the top of the first on Dalton Franken’s three run homer, but the Monarch’s answered with seven runs in the bottom half. Sean Houston smacked a three run homer to tie the game, and Brayden Schurke launched a two run dinger to give the Monarchs a 5-3 lead with nobody down. The Trojans closed the gap to 7-5 on Zach Nelson’s two run homer in the top of the second, but the Monarch’s kept Atlantic at arms length in their side of the inning. Houston crossed home plate on a Trojan error and Schurke tacked another run on Taylor Thul RBI walk to make it a 9-5 game after two.
In the top of the third Ryan Hawkins scored on a Monarch error to tighten the game to 9-6, but Derek Khronke scored for Denison/Shleswig on a throw to first base in bottom of the third to extend their lead to 10-6 which would eventually be the final score of the game.
The Monarch’s scored 10-runs on 13-hits, and Atlantic scored six runs on four hits led by Dalton Franken who finished the game three-for-four including that three run homer. Zach Nelson popped a two-run homer for the Trojans fourth hit of the contest.
